In December 2012, Canada Steamship Lines welcomed the MV Baie St. Paul in the Port of Montreal. She is the most technologically advanced ship to enter the Great Lakes-St. Lawrence Seaway system. The vessel received the International Bulk Journal’s 2012 Bulk Ship of the Year Award and was selected by the Royal Institution of Naval Architects as a Significant Ship of 2012. Moreover, in 2012, Canada Steamship Lines and its Trillium Class were honoured by the St. Lawrence Economic Development Council with the prestigious St. Lawrence Award.

The Baie St. Paul is the first of four new Trillium Class self-unloaders that Canada Steamship Lines has introduced to its fleet as part of its newbuild program. These new Lakers feature state-of-the-art technology, setting new standards in operational and environmental performance, energy efficiency and reliability. In addition to the four Trillium Class Lakers, Canada Steamship Lines added two new gearless bulkers. The cutting edge vessels entered service in 2015.
